THE SWEET PROJECT STORY

Hi! My name is Emma Wasserman, and I'm 14 years old and live in Westchester, New York. With the help of WIT - Whatever It Takes, a nonprofit that helps teens become entrepreneurs, I decided to launch The Sweet Project during the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to do my part in helping those who might not have access to masks continue to stay safe. While writing an essay for my English class on the topic of how homeless communities were being impacted by the coronavirus, it really struck me how bad some of these situations were. Between many not having access to places to wash their hands, or not being able to properly social distance, it can be very difficult to stay safe. So, I thought that I could try to help just a little by providing protective and reusable face coverings, and decided to add encouraging and sweet notes in with them to make sure everyone has a smile on beneath their mask.

Originally, I had planned to include baked goods in these little packages with the masks and notes, but after talking to a couple of shelters, it became clear that baked goods were not going to help them right now. So, since I had already planned to bake, I figured that I could just sell the baked goods to people in my area, and have the proceeds go towards funding what the shelters did want. If you do not live in the Westchester area, you can still contribute by visiting the "Help us Out!" page.

PLEASE NOTE: We are not currently an official non-profit, however, we have partnered with the WIT non-profit organization (27-1276677) who is allowing us to have all donations be tax-deductible.
